Since 2016, all new homes built in Alabama are required by code to pass a blower door test before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued.
The 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) along with the 2016 Alabama Amendments also requires a duct leakage test be pass for HVAC systems that fall outside of the building envelope.
Alabama also requires that all HVAC systems include a ACCA/Manual-J Load Calculation for residential winter and summer air conditioning as defined by the 2015 IECC
Alabama Energy Code Requirements
- Blower Door test must meet 5 air changes per hour or less at 50 Pascals (ACH50)
- Duct-Blaster test must be less than 4 cubic feet per minute per 100 square feet
- ACCA/Manual-J Load Calculation for each HVAC installation
